WHY THIS WATCH MATTERS
The T12 chronograph looks like no other, with a very 1970s case that wears amazingly on the wrist, especially with the original Gay Freres bracelet. And its Lemania movement continues to deliver, proving that this unusual chronograph deserves some recognition.
THE FULL STORY
At first look, the oversized case of the T12 chronograph is all about roundness; yet, on the wrist, it appears to be perfectly proportioned thanks to the fact that the lugs and pushers are integrated within the case. The dial is no less striking, with a powerful use of red coloring for all chronograph measures. The imposing applied indexes also add some visual depth and nicely complement the stepped inner rehaut. The look here is completed by the folded stainless steel bracelet manufactured by Gay Freres (a manufacture also responsible for supplying to the likes of Rolex, Patek Philippe and Zenith).
THE NITTY GRITTY
The massive case appears to be unpolished, as it still shows the original brushing, as well as unavoidable superficial scratches from minor wear. The original Gay Freres bracelet is dated from 1970 and does not exhibit any excessive stretch, proving that this watch was sparingly worn. Something to note is some light fading to the inner rehaut, and a minuscule bit of lume missing on the hour hand. The dial is spotless and the lume on the hands and indexes has taken on a very pleasant patina. Overall, this is a striking ’70s chronograph in great condition for its age.
