Squale 101 ATMOS Black Tattico Zaffiro Edition

If you love a simple design yet having rich features, you probably want to take a look at 101 ATMOS Black Tattico Zaffiro Edition. The development of technology brings Squale recrafted the original 101 ATMOS that was first produced in the 70’s. 

They totally upgrade to a stronger case construction by putting a helium release valve to prevent the entry of larger molecules such as water. The case material is still made of 316L stainless steel in a super matte grey. Further, I am completely amazed with the caseback which is fully carved with a classic wave featuring Squale’s logo on the bottom.

Although this is an Italian made, this superb timepiece is powered by Swiss movement, ETA’s automatic caliber which is based on Sellita SW 200-2 or ETA 2824-2 with a high power reserve of 42 hours. The movement is operating at 28,800 beats per hour which offers you both hacking and handwinding.

Diving deep into the dial, it is fully built in matte black combining matte grey for the markers in a rectangular shape which has no numeral at all. The minute hand is painted in orange accents on the edge, while the hour hand is done in white colour. As you can see at the 3.00 o’clock position, sit a date window that allows you to read a calendar.

Another thing that should be discussed is the bezel. This Squale dive watch is named with “Zaffiro” because the bezel itself has been improved using sapphire material in order to keep your old-fashioned look. After going through a complex process, the unidirectional bezel is finished in black while the strap is crafted from tropical rubber.

This Squale dive watch has a proportional dimension with 44 mm diameter case, 16 mm thickness, also 49 mm lugs to lugs. The dimension has been adjusted for professional divers. For me, the 22 lug width is better and more masculine compared to their old version.

If you are wondering about the crown type, it uses a screw down type which is located at the 4.00 o’clock position, giving more protection against water and resistance to rust. This type of crown is important to support your underwater experience.
