But when you’re exploring the ocean depths, it has to be much more than that. Hundreds of meters under the surface, reliability and accuracy are matters of life and death. And that’s the provenance behind your C65 Divetimer Special Edition.

As you’ll be aware, the dial carries a decompression scale to help you calculate decompression stops as you ascend from a deep dive. And while we wouldn’t advise using it when you’re underwater, it’s a brilliant planning tool – with a remarkable history.

Decompression scales appeared on watches in 1962 when Dr Hannes Keller – physicist, mathematician and extreme diver – attempted the world deep-sea dive record. Not only did he require a watch to keep track of his time underwater, but he also needed a decompression table that let him calculate how long his stops had to be.

The result was a watch, made by Vulcain, that had a decompression scale printed on the dial. And that scale is now found on the face of your C65 Divetimer Special Edition.

While you might not spend your leisure time exploring, say, the Pacific’s mega-deep Mariana Trench, it’s good to know that if you did, you’d be able to do so with confidence. And in style.
