Girard-Perregaux Vintage 1970’s Ref 4210 Chronograph Swiss Valjoux Manual 42mm

Girard-Perregaux is a master of capturing the essence of a particular time period, and this example defines the best quality of 1970s design without going overboard. The large 42mm tonneau-shape case with hooded lugs and recessed pushers and crown was a very popular combination from this period. The vertically elongated case shape – instead of a horizontally wide shape – makes this watch easily wearable. The dial’s brushed radial finish against the highly polished case finish really gives an additional dimension to the watch. The dial is a desirable black version with a fairly simple layout; the tachymeter scale is placed on the inner bezel instead of directly on the dial, which in turn gives the dial a larger appearance. The three blue sections on the right register give the watch a nice touch of color. The lume on the indexes and handset has taken a consistent vanilla color that pops nicely against the matte black dial as well. Combined with the rare new-old-stock condition, you can’t go wrong with this piece.

This piece is in new-old-stock condition with original pushers, crown, and handset. The case is in excellent condition with sharp edges, and the demarcation of the brushed/polish finishes are very clear. Very light surface scratches are visible on the highly polished part of the bezel. The dial is in well preserved condition with the center changing to a tropical hue. There is a minor scratch between one and two. The lume on the dial and handset has taken a nice, creamy vanilla tone, which is very pleasing to the eye. The movement is in running condition with the chronograph starting, stopping, and resetting at this time.
