The Backstory

The Cartier brand is responsible for many of the world’s most famous watches, updating and making minor, but much-beloved changes to keep up with the times. Many of the features and styles of modern wristwatches can be attributed to Cartier… in fact, we may very well have Louis Cartier to thank for putting watches on wrists at all.

Despite this rich history, a long-standing criticism of Cartier was the absence of in-house movements in their watches. Though Cartier certainly wasn’t skimping, their generic Swiss movements didn’t attract the attention of many of their competitors. In 2010, Cartier finally addressed the critics with the Calibre de Cartier collection, a line of watches showcasing new movements, modern cases, and styling that was indisputably authentic to the brand.

Why We Love It

Though undeniably Cartier, the Calibre de Cartier Diver might be hard to pin down if you noticed it from across a room. A dive watch with considerable presence, its case measures 42mm in diameter and is topped by a black unidirectional bezel. 

Once you take a closer look, you start to unearth the Cartier DNA. A faceted crown, the large and legible Roman numerals on the dial, and the “Cartier” branding in large text all speak for themselves. The white text on the black dial is complemented by a date aperture at three o’clock as well as a small seconds sub-dial at six o’clock. This automatic dive watch is water resistant up to 300 meters and is powered by the Cartier caliber 1904-PS MC self-winding movement.
